Birth Control Pills

I started my birth control pills on the 26 of November, ive been taking them same time everyday.

I am wondering how they work exactly, i started spotting and then i started bleeding real heavy. Is that normal ? And i still have a week left of pills .Im sure my body is just adjusting . But im new to the birth control thing so advice would be greatly appreciated .
