Should I be there?

Question

My grandmother is going to be taken off of life support tomorrow evening. I am very scared of being there when she passes away, but at the same time I don’t want to regret not being there. Have any of you had this experience? How was it for you? 
This is such an emotional time. I am heart broken. 
Any advice you may have would be extremely appreciated.

I would try to imagine what your grandmother would want. If you think its something she would cherish, then I would stay. If she is the kind of gal that would rather you not be in pain in that moment, maybe don't stay. I'm sorry for you...and I am sending you healing thoughts.

My grandma passed away and we saw her body afterwards. It was quite traumatic for me and it's my last memory of her. I think the hardest part about it was seeing all of my family hysterically crying, however she looked peaceful and also her face looked youthful... 
At the end of the day I don't wish I wasn't there, but I don't think I'd like to do it again for another family member. It was a life experience I guess and although it was hard I've dealt with it.

Yes. I would go. I've sat with a few of my patients during death. It's scary yes, but I'm sure you'll feel better knowing she had you there with her? If you really can't bring yourself to go during go before ! It will comfort her. No one wants to die alone or without seeing the ones they love.

My dad had cancer and it got bad really fast and they let us keep him at home until he died basically. I would go over there every single day after he got bad and one day we were just sitting around and talking and stuff everyone but my dad because he was so sick he couldn't talk anymore and something just happened where he couldn't breathe, me, my husband, and step mother were all around him when it happened and it just so happened a lot more of our family were on the way over to visit at the time so they all came in shortly after and the hospice people let us say goodbye from home, my mammaw kept telling me I needed to leave because I was pregnant at the time and it would be too stressful on me but I chose to stay because that was my dad and I wasn't gonna leave until I had to, it was the hardest thing I had ever been around but I will always be "glad" that I was there to spend the last moments of his life with him.

I have no experience with during. For me i visited my aunt in the evening and she passed in the morning. I would of much rather been there just so that she wasn’t alone her last mins.  If you feel like you can handle being there, be there and hold her hand. If you cannot, go before, but make sure someone else is there with her. I’m so sorry hun.

If you will regret not being there than go. If you have someone else there that can be in the room than you can always step out if you feel uncomfortable. I would want someone to hold my hand, anyone really.

I wasn't there when my grandfather passed and I often think about how I wish I had one more minute with him.
