Is it selfish to only have one child?

I’m feeling lately like I don’t think I’ll ever be ready for number two and that maybe I just don’t want more than one child. But then I start to feel selfish that my baby won’t have any siblings.

Concidering we are heavily overpopulated and killing our earth, I view you as less selfish. Now before all you moms of sextuplets come trying to jump down my throat, I understand wanting a big family and that's okay. But if we're talking about selflessness I gotta say it's more selfish to our planet to have a bunch of kids.

I’m an only child and for some very unknown reasons I always said if I had kids I’d have two...I need to say that I NEVER suffered from my only child status, always had great friends, close cousins (like sister close) and now an amazing husband with an amazing bunch or brothers and sisters in law. I am currently pregnant with my first child and my husband and I decided we’d only have one. We’ve actually decide that for the happiness of our child to come because of the reality of our lives. I have a few friends that went that same way as well, they have happy kids. My mother always said to me, you don’t pick your siblings (she has one crazy-mean sister). So, as great and beautiful some siblings relationships are, they really don’t apply to everyone. If you have only one child but you are very invested in their lives, I honestly don’t think you are being selfish in any ways. It is a personal opinion, everyone is entitled to their own. I had amazing parents that were present in my life and I was a very happy child. I will do everything in my power to provide the same to my baby. 😉

I’m one and done and want to foster/adopt in the next few years, my husband wants one more biological child. So we are compromising, having one more biological child and will foster/adopt in about 5-7 years. 
Well, we decided that on our daughter’s second birthday we will begin trying for another. And the other night we were talking about it and I began baaawwwling my eyes out because it just came to me that that’s only a year and 4 months away. I mean to me, when we decided that I was still pregnant, so I was like oh ok that’s a good 2 years from now. It seemed far away. And now my baby is 8 months and we’re planning her first baby and it’s becoming a real thing... like in a year we’ll be talking with the doctor about getting off birth control and having another. That’s big, to me. And so now we are talking about waiting and seeing if that’s for sure what we want as we get closer to that time. Because it’s obvious it might be a bit more than I bargained for. 
I think each person has their own idea of how many kids to have. I think it’s something each couple has to decide for themselves, together, with respect to each other’s wishes.

That’s one of the reasons why mine are 5 years apart! I was happy with one for a long time! I’m so happy I have my baby now though! The time I waited was worth it! Never say never! 😄

After seeing how my mentally ill grandparents treat my dad(an only child) and all he wants are some support from someone who understand the situation, I’m dead set on having at least two kids. 
So when/if anything happens they have some support in each other.
