Parents: do you feel pressure to create a “magical” Christmas for your kids?

😐😐😐I’m not a parent but shit am I feeling the pressure. My mom’s side goes HARD into Christmas. My grandma gets this big ass like 8-10 foot tree, decorates it in the only color you’re allowed to wrap Xmas gifts in (blue/silver/white), and then EVERY family so like 15+ people plus all the individual gifts wraps their gifts to the best of their ability for the best gift prize which is some gift card, and all the gifts go under grandma’s tree. As a kid it is truly a beautiful catalogue worthy scene, but being an adult now I’m expected to keep up with that and it’s like😐😐😐😐I’m incapable. I don’t have 60+ years to amass ribbons and bows and silver under my belt😂😂. I just bought my first potted Xmas tree and it’s three feet tall. I can’t spend much. I feel how my mom does.
As for my parents? My mom gets super stressed because she’s expected to roll out a 15+ people dinner on Xmas as well as do her portion of gifts (her portion as in Grandma insists everyone has something from them under the tree regardless of financial situation). 
Grandma’s last year tree👇🏻 smaller than normal cuz that year one part of the family did an early Xmas at their house.

MY TREE, named Timotree (Timothy but tree at the end)😂😂. They’re actually not going to visit me this Xmas because my place isn’t festive enough.

Do I feel the pressure to have a magical Christmas? No. Do I want to make Christmas magical for my kids? Yes. But that's because that's what my parents did, not vegas of what other people think or say or do.

I would KILL FOR chip and Joanna Gaines to decorate my home for the holidays. 😂 but yes, there is some pressure, but I don’t get too crazy. I can’t get crazy with decorations anyways because I have 5 cats and a wild one year old. Lol

I don't know what to consider "magical". I always had a tree in my house, and my parents always made sure we had food,  a tree and presents. growing up in Romania,  I can't say that Christmas was ever as much fun as it is here in the US. reason why I go out my way to make it nice. now, after 33 years, I'm also a parent and I find joy in setting up for Christmas. I don't do much for thanksgiving,  I don't do much for easter, but Christmas I go all out. and it's my pleasure. we also kept the European tradition and also celebrate Saint Nicholas,  that brings sweets , if u clean and arrange Ur shoes by the door. (saint nick puts sweets in shoes,  to kids that have been behaving well).

I don't feel pressure to do it, I do it because I *want* to. Christmas is literally my favorite holiday, and I LOVE decorating and making everything so pretty, and wrapping presents, watching Christmas movies, reading Christmas books, etc. We even went on a polar express themed train ride a couple years ago, and LOVED it. In my opinion kids are only young and full of imagination for a few years before the cold harshness of reality sets in, and I want to make as many of those years as special as I can *while* I can.

I don't feel pressured or obligated. However, in my last relationship we had pretty bad to non existent Christmases, no tree and most times no presents. I was out of work and lived with a drunk who spent every dime on alcohol and hanging with his friends. Only thing I could've done was ensure I cooked a decent meal. I've since moved on and can now enjoy Christmas the way I did when I was growing up and I try to show my kids a great time.

I love Christmas. My kids help decorate the tree- it’s a family event. But I enjoy putting up decorations and baking a ton. Growing up my mum always made Christmas special and went all out. I loved that and now want that for my kids (but in reality they’re a bit young to really know what’s going on but I get a huge kick out of Christmas myself). It’s my favourite holiday.
