Needing opinions on boyfriends comment

So we were sitting in the kitchen as I was finishing up feeding our little one. My phone lit up with a text from my best friends boyfriend. He texted me asking for an opinion on which diamond ring he should choose to propose with. Sweet right?!

I show my boyfriend the ring pictures and ask for his opinion too. I get a snarky reply, "Is all girls care about is 'the ring?'"

Mind you, he's good friends with my best friend who is about to be proposed to. (Side note: my boyfriend is divorced from a previous marriage and we now have a child together.) I'm assuming his reaction is based on his previous marital situation? Moving on, I say, "so, women shouldn't care about a ring or the thought behind it?" He then says, "Well what do men get?"

I walked away. I always valued the process and thought behind a proposal. We've talked about getting married nonchalantly and I've never pressured him regarding marriage. I'm assuming his previous marriage has tarnished his thoughts on a proposal to me?

Confused is an understatement.
