Should we have the right to know how much our coworkers make?

I was listening to a TED talk regarding this and thought it was interesting.

Salaries could be posted at work, on their website, or even formulas for how pay is determined can be shared.

It can be argued that not knowing leads to information asymmetry and saves companies money during hiring and pay negotiations. It can also be argued that with transparency the gender wage gap within companies closes.
