Diagnosed with VCI

Today at 24+3 I found out I have velamentous cord insertion (VCI). My Dr called me and told me over the phone and said that it means that the placental cord is off to the side instead of the center. This means they will have to closely monitor him to make sure he is getting enough nutrients but that no other precautions need to be taken.

After I got off the phone, of course I Googled it and what I found was not encouraging. It appears to only affect 1% of pregnancies - very rare. It can be increasingly dangerous for both me and my baby as he progresses. A common complication is that if I go into labor, the cord membranes can be detached easily from the placental and result in a still birth. From what I have read, most end up getting a scheduled C-section, but my Dr seems to think that I should be able to move forward with a traditional vaginal birth. This really scares me as it seems like the safer option is to schedule a c section a few weeks before my due date.

Has anyone had any experience with this condition? Good or bad? It would be really helpful to hear how others are dealing with it and what the outcomes we're.
