how kids are entertained?

I want to get my 1 year old son a sand box, chalk, playdough, beans, etc, but he literally eats everything!  how do you keep your babies entertained without them eating stuff?

too young for all that.  they are still teething and will be for a while.  that results in everything  (and I mean everything )being chewed to death. our daughter is picking up EVERY SPEC off the floor and eats it. chews on ALL materials.. on tags, on her pack and play, on her toys.. we got her a big playpen.. (really big- 3 sets of gates) and we bought many toys, including drawing board. we watch pre K learning videos on the tv. we play in her castle in the playpen.  we read. rub around in her car, go for walks,  play with the cat, walk around the house..

This age is so easy to entertain them! I can’t wait to buy sandboxes and things too. For now though we just have 100s of toys in the house...little trikes truck, lawnmower, tricycle, baby stroller, etc. ball pit, tent, a tunnel....we play outside in the background a lot or go to parks. We paint (crayola nontoxic and washable) and sometimes we even just take baths with lots of toys for fun lol

My son loves legos and puzzles, he’ll sit and play for an hour straight. I also bought him the super chunky crayons and big paper rolls, he loves coloring. He also likes reading and going thro all his books and looking at the pictures. We’re also buying him IKEA’s play kitchen and plastic dishes and food (toys). He loves cooking and “feeding” us 😂 we exercise with him (14months) 3 time a week I love it takes all his energy out and gets him ready for nap time lol🙈 . If the weather is nice and we run out of ideas we’ll just go the backyard and play with the swing set and he’ll chase down the chickens to hug them haha. If you don’t have a backyard parks are great too.

I've found lift the flap books and anything peek-a-boo related a big hit... also sound puzzles, balls of all sorts (ones you can hit through a toy, bounce on different surfaces,   Big letters and magnets that stick to the refrigerator, oh and blocks like mega blocks, duplo Lego appropriate age blocks... toys they can pull or you can pull and move like the popping vacuum looking toy... music instruments like jungle bells. 
You may still have to monitor them with some of these... my son manages to chew everything but plastic and hard cardboard books at least somewhat survive for example and live up to a strong willed toddler.

Try things from around the house (supervised of course). Crinkled wrapping paper, bubble wrap taped to ground, gift wrap card board tubes, an empty big plastic jug or cardboard round oatmeal carton, the cardboard rings inside packing tape. We’ve spent many happy hours (maybe 15 minute increments) playing with all those things.
