How many ladies would suggest a birth plan?

My hospital has a standard birth plan form: things like check off if you want bath or shower access, early/late/no epidural, etc. 
If you come in with a few preferences, the L&D; unit will for sure be considerate to your concerns. If you come in with a multi-page document with your aromatherapy preferences, no one is going to read it.
That being said, unexpected things can happen and birth can change very quickly. Don't be too attached to your birth plan: if you're too attached to a particular birth experience, that's an easy way to be disappointed. The most important thing is a healthy baby and everything else is secondary.

Birth plans don't always go like you want. Sometimes you just gotta do what best for the baby and your life even though it's not what you wanted.

I think we should look at a birth plan as a “what do I do if this situation happens” rather than “plan every minute of my labor and delivery” If you’re wanting all natural but realize the pain is too much, do you want people to encourage to keep it all natural or help you decide which pain management to go with? Things like that. Every labor and delivery is going to be completely different so you’ve got to keep an open mind but don’t let yourself get bullied into something you don’t want.

I had like 4 things I wanted to so before and after the baby, but nothing to big. It never goes as plan, so it's better not to stress about it.

In my experience working labor and delivery, if you come in with a written birth plan nothing is gonna go according to how you want it to and you will likely end up having a c-section. Just seems to be more of a jinx than anything else. If there are certain things you want just make sure your doctor is aware and let your nurses know.

A birth plan is more like goals for the birth. It’s not a buffet you get to pick and choose things from. Maybe no medication is your goal? Maybe feeling no ounce of pain at all is your goal? It’s good to express how you feel about these things and even express that you don’t have a preference to certain things, and to know what to expect if that goal is not achievable. The staff should help you and keep you calm  it’s just good to know what’s going on and to let them know your expectations and goals so they can try to do those things for you. There are all kinds of things from medication, birthing positions, mirrors so you can see, you reaching down to “help” deliver baby, delayed cord clamping, cleaning off the vernix, who cuts the cord, skin to skin, allllll kinds of things.

I never even bothered filling mine out. Sure I wanted a water birth and my birth went NOTHING like that - but at the end of the day I had my son and he’s amazing. I had a disc blow out in my back part way through and I went from getting through contractions to being in so much agony I couldn’t stand/walk/sit/breathe. Needed an epidural after that and tore and needed stitches etc etc

I mean you can have a birth plan but just keep in mind that there’s a 99.99% chance something isn’t going to be followed or something has to be changed.
