Induction or c section?

My doctor is about 45 minutes away, so is the hospital I'm delivering at. My mom mentioned they might talk to me about induction because since this is my first baby I run the risk of delivering really quick and delivering on the way to the hospital. But I've had someone tell me if they want to induce me I should just go ahead and have a c section and get the baby out because induction raises your risks of having a c section anyways.. Someone else told me not to get a c section unless absolutely necessary.. I'm kinda scared of a c section but if they induce me I have a higher chance of getting a c section I might as well suck it up and just do the c section anyways.. Anybody have any insight to help easy my FTM pregnancy brain? TIA!

I have never heard of delivering fast on first baby. My doctor said its the opposite. As far as the c-section, if you do end up being induced I would not opt for a c-section right away, without giving your body a chance to deliver vaginally. C-sections are a major surgery, I don't think you want to go through that if you don't have to, ya know? Ultyits up to you in the end. I think you will get to the hospital just fine.

It actually takes longer to labor and deliver a first baby...it's the 2nd, 3rd, and so on that you worry about going quickly with.

Ok, so whoever told you to just get a c-section is an idiot (sorry) but it's a serious sugary and should only be an option of medically necessary! . And being induced doesn't raise the risk.. It's all depending on your body weather or not you need one.. I was told the same thing "this is your first baby! You have narrow hips you can deliver normally" pff I did it and was only in labor for 5 hours and pushed for and hour!! But an induction DOES make your contractions worse.. And if you don't want and induction you can do other things to get your body ready for delivery.. They are natural was to be induced.. My doc had me try all natural because I didn't want the induction medicine.. And the exercise ball was what did it for me..

I've been induced twice and didn't have to have a c-section. You stand just as a good a chance of needing a c-section without induction, the risk increase is so marginal that it doesn't make much difference. Give your body a chance. If you choose induction, let your body roll with it. No matter what, you and babe will come out beautifully on top! :)

Hi! I'm about the same distance from the hospital and my dr actually said since this is my first it's more likely to take a long time and I should have no trouble getting there on time. Not sure who is right, but your post has me nervous! Also, I have a friend who had a c section after trying to deliver vaginally- while she said it was awful to labor and still have a c section, she would do it again if there were any possibility of avoiding a c section, because the recovery from that was so bad!

I had an emergency csection with my first and personally, I never want one again. Obviously my experience was worse than a scheduled csection, but I would still never recommend a csection unless medically necessary.

Plenty of people live a ways away from the hospital and do fine. I thought first children are less likely to come fast, body hasn't been stretched out yet.

Having delivered both vaginally and via c section I would never schedule a c section. Ever!! Also I live 55 minutes from hospital and this is my 4th baby. I'm just going to let it play out how it is supposed to!
