How do you find a "reputable" tattoo artist?

Maybe this is a silly question but how do you know when a tattoo artist is genuinely "good" and highly experienced at what they do for a living?

Google the area you are wanting to get a tattoo at then look at different shops. Read reviews good and bad, look at the portfolio, and also try to find out how long they have been in business

In my opinion, take a look at their portfolio, ask how long they’ve been tattooing, and if they seem to have a decent wait list that would indicate lots of clients and/or repeating clients.

Look at the artist’s portfolio. Check reviews of the shop on yelp. Visit the shop in person - is it clean? Are the workstations sanitary? Do they use new disposable tips for every client? Are they wearing gloves? Stuff like that. And if you get a weird vibe from the shop - chances are something weird is going on.
