Are beauty pageants bad for everyone?

Is there really any point to these?

They give out scholarships based off how you look.

What does that teach the winners, losers, and the non competitive? Especially in young children? Nothing positive.

I'm not a fan. I have 3 beautiful daughters, but I would never put them in pageants. Personally, I think it teaches girls to base too much of their self worth on physical beauty. I know you can win scholarships, learn stuff, meet people, etc. However, the negative effects of superficiality far outweigh those few positives, which are obtainable through other means.

Bad? No. Pointless and outdated, yes!! The only minor point to them is scholarship money. I think we can find better reasons to give young women scholarships than their pretty faces.

Beauty pageants are not all bad some parents do take it to the extreme but my experience with my daughter has been nothing but positive ! Unless you have done them personally or have had your child do them you'll never know exactly if your opinions are right don't judge pageants off of those tv shows their in reality morning at all what they portray.

I think they can be very good. They teach poise, grace, speaking skills, sportsmanship, and more other than just looks.  I think that like any other event or activity we choose for our kids, certain ones or groups or parents can make them very negative.
