Sex after birth

Me and my boyfriend haven’t had sex since the day I’ve given birth and it’s been 3 weeks. We’ve wanted to and we were gonna try but I couldn’t because I was scared. How many moms waited the full 6 weeks or did it before? I’m scared it’s going to hurt or I’m going to have to wait longer to “completely heal”.
