Postpartum Swelling

I had my baby on Sunday and after that my hands and feet started to swell ..mostly my feet . I have been elevating them , but my Dr wants me to walk around as much as possible and not to sit for long periods of time (I tore and had to have stitches ), but the more that I walk , the more they swell. Has anyone experienced this and will it go away?
