Contractions?

So I'm not sure if I want I just experienced were contractions. I was laying down and suddenly got a sharp pain across my belly about 2 inches higher than my belly button. It lasted for maybe a minute and then stopped and happen 3 more times after that. It hurt like hell and baby was very active as this was happening and still is very active. Does this sound like contractions? I'm 35 weeks and baby has been so low today it's been painful to sit.
