Use a Menstrual Cup instead of tampons/pads?

Question

I've recently heard about the menstrual cup and am very interested to see who else uses them or not. Leave your country, cup brand, and reasons why or why not, in the comments so I can further my research. Thank you for your input!

I'm in the UK and use a Moon Cup, it's the best decision I've ever made 😀

-Super cheap, £20 and lasts about 8 years whereas a pack of 10 pads is around £5

-Environmentally friendly, pads and tampons produce a ridiculous amount of waste (unless you use cloth pads)

-Comfortable, tampons dry out your vagina and pads can irritate your vulva, it didn't bother me before but after starting with a cup going back to pads/tampons is super uncomfortable

-You can keep it in for 8 hours straight

-You can put it in before starting your period which is probably the best thing for me, if I'm due to start I'll just stick it in and I can relax about it instead of running back and forth to the restroom every time I feel like I've started (yeah you can wear a pad too but sometimes I wouldn't realise I'd started and find the pad was disgustingly full)

-Saves space, I used to have a massive box full of pads and tampons but now it's only got my cup, heat pads and paracetamol

-Better for you, unless you buy organic cotton pads and tampons have a tiny bit of pesticide on them that builds up over the years but a cup is medical-grade silicone

-Can't see it through your clothes no matter how tight

-Cleaning it is easy, you can dump it and put it straight back in if you're out in public and can't rinse it out (it's a lot less disgusting than you might imagine) then between periods you wash it properly by using a cleaner or boiling it to sterilise it, both work perfectly fine.

It does take time to get used to it (took me 5 cycles to really get the hang of it) but it's SO worth it! The blood thing grossed me out to start with but I'm now not bothered by it and far more aware of my own health and it's helped me learn the different types of period blood. I try to do it in the shower (which is super easy and clean) one time a day so I only have two other times to do it when I go to the toilet.

Well worth it, too many women give up too fast, give it time and you'll love it! X

It takes a little while to get used to using a cup. I find that using a cup is MUCH more convenient because I can leave it in for as long as I want with no leakage or uncomfort. It's very strange to have to dump out the cup, but I have been able to look past that because it's more comfortable and healthier because there are no dyes or harsh chemicals.

YES! I use the Diva Cup and the Lily Cup Compact! I absolutely love them. I live in the U.S. It can take some time to get used to, but it's so worth it. Lots more info on Precious Stars Pads on YouTube!!! Make the switch!!

I bought the diva cup and live in the U.S.  I used it during one cycle and I hated it.  I had no problems with insertion or leaking or anything like that but the whole thing just grosses me out.  I think it's great if you can get past dumping, rinsing and washing the cup full of blood 😫😫😫 I'd rather just use a tampon, pull it out and be done with it.  Clean and simple

I own the diva cup and I live in the US. I'm currently using it and honestly I absolutely love it. This is my second cycle using this cup and it works perfect for me because I have a super high cervix. Since the first time I ever used it until now, I have only had 2 super minor leaks. I love that I can literally forget about my period because it's even helped me with my crazy cramps. It's definitely worth a try.

I'm from Spain and use FemmiCycle, best ever decision, I have a heavy flow and needed to change my tampon every 2 hours, with this cup I don't worry about, 8 to 12 hours. Love it.

I love my menstrual cup it makes everything so much easier ! I have even used it in cases where the doctor told me to not use tampons because it doesn't hold the blood to your cervix it sits so low it's not a infection risk
