I am fascinated by her birth story .I wish I could have the strength to deliver my baby without any assistance ...I mean that's how things worked back in old times so I respect her decision

Her birth story was amazing. However, she’s a bit ignorant about the hospital and midwife comment. I’m so thankful for modern day medicine and technology. Without hospitals or midwives to intervene, the fatality rate of mother and baby would be much higher. I think there are some doctors and midwives that make a hospital or birthing center unpleasant. Yes, I completely understand that. I went through a bad experience with my first at a certain hospital. I just do not disregard the doctors and midwives who care and save lives on a daily basis.

Not in a million years would I ever do that. Soooo much could go wrong that I would never feel confident in doing that. Imagine if you hemorrhaged or something. I kinda find it slightly irresponsible, but that’s just my opinion.

I mean good for her getting the birth she wanted but completely wrong and ignorant to tell people hospitals are not the ‘norm’, neither was surviving childbirth for hundreds of years. You can encourage women to have the birth they want without degrading hospitals/doctors and midwives.

I think its amazing, she trusted herself in being a woman and doing what women have done since the beginning of time.  There was a time when there was no hospital births.  I applaud her, amazing.

This is amazing. She’s more brave than me. I birthed our daughter in the car with no one to assist but it was certainly not planned. Afterwards, I realized that it’s totally possible.  But I’m not going to lie, it was scary and anything could have gone wrong. We were lucky there was a happy ending. I get too nervous about all the “what if’s”. I’d rather be in or right next to a hospital. But that’s just me. I’m cautious. Thanks for sharing this.

I would love to give birth like this some day! But I would definitely want to have a midwife on call just in case something went wrong. Our bodies are made to give birth so I think if you were well researched and prepared for any emergencies that could arise and had the sense to call a midwife if you knew you needed it during labor that its every bit as safe if not more than a hospital birth! But everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you wouldn't feel safe birthing alone then definitely don't

I think it’s dumb to not have a midwife there. Fine with natural home births but what if something went horribly wrong?! Also, are they taking baby immediately to hospital to be checked?! Yes, natural home births were the norm back in the day and so were things going wrong.

I had 5 babies at home - first 2 with a midwife - hospital births encompass maybe about a minute in our current perception of the human race - however, it was pretty common for births to be attended by 'midwives', which usually meant women who had birthed several times, mostly relatives - unsanitary conditions, unhealthy diets (such as very little raw fiber), bad habits & some fashions (like corsets) contributed to infant mortality ...which still happens in hospitals
