Blood test to determine baby's gender?

If you received a blood test to determine baby's gender, how? Do you have to request it or did the doctor offer? Do you pay for it out of pocket? Can they do it same day, or did you have to schedule another appointment? Is there anything that would deem it necessary for them to test? How accurate is it, and at how many weeks?

I had the NIPT which includes genetic testing and gender. My doc offered it, it was covered 100% by insurance & got the results in 5 days. I'm also 35 with my first, which makes me high risk - pretty sure that's why it was offered and covered.

It’s suggested by the doctor to test for genetic abnormalities (chromosomal like Down syndrome and trisomy disorders). You typically have to specifically ask them to test for sex as part of the test (I had to ask them at my office, it’s not automatic). If you are under 35, some insurance companies will not cover the test and you must pay out of pocket. It’s about $250.

my doc asked if I wanted it. next doctors appointment they drew blood. had results a week or so later. insurance paid for it. I was 15 weeks. it was accurate for me.

I requested it thru Dr office. It is not a seperate test, and they couple it with tests for downs syndrome. Results are 99 percent accurate and it takes about 7-10 business days for results.
