Struggling with breastfeeding. At the hospital we had a hard time getting her to stay awake at the breast so they encouraged supplementing with formula. Now she’s 8 days old and she “gets” breastfeeding, stays awake, and it seems to be working fine, but I’ll feed her for nearly an hour and she’s still hungry. Then out of frustration we give her formula and she sucks 2 ounces down in 5 minutes and is out like a light for 3-4 hours.

And I know I’m producing enough because I pump for 30 minutes and get about 3 or 4 ounces. Should be plenty for her. Does anyone have any insight into this? The only thing I’ve found online that I can think applies is that apparently formula is more filling than breast milk.

I just feel frustrated that she’s not getting full even though I’m producing. 🙁
