Mother in law wants to do two separate baby showers. One for my husbands side of the family and another one that my family can plan. I hate the idea, why not join both families together?

I was bothered by the fact that she made her own plans to do one for their family. My parents and my husbands parents live about 2 hours away from each other. We live 3 hours away from my parents. 5 hours away from his. 
She insisted that not all of his family would be able to make the 2 hour drive to my parents house, and that mine could make the drive to their house IF they wanted to. Am I crazy for being upset about MIL wanting two separate family parties or should I just deal with it and have two? 
Our parents have always gotten along, I don’t understand why we need to separate the family.

Be firm and say no, if she insists on doing it then say you won’t be there and won’t accept any gifts. She can’t have a baby shower without you so there’s not much she can do, just make sure she doesn’t try to surprise you with one if you visit.

I had a similar situation with my MIL and my shower my mom and best friend are throwing me. I simply told her we would not be attending too for it’s a lot for a 7 or 8 month pregnant woman to travel. We also live a good distance from both sides of the family. We told we would invite everyone she wanted to and if they are able to make it, great. If not, that’s understandable because it also would be two hours for them.
