Indoor plants and advice for smelly apartment?
Back story:
I moved into my apartment about 8 months ago. At the time my dog was still being potty trained so she did have a couple accidents on the carpet (our apartment is 80% carpet). Fast forward 2 months my husband got us another puppy for my birthday (at the time I had planned to never have kids and only fur babies). After we got them both potty trained we got the carpets professionally washed and specifically for dog urine.
A month ago we dog sat my fathers dog who pissed ALL OVER the apartment including our bed! The carpets take forever to dry where I live because of the moister and cold! So we are stuck with this nasty smell until the weather gets a little drier. Also, with owning 2 indoor only large breed dogs who both shed A LOT our apartment now has that “dog smell”.
Our cheap vacuum broke and our $400 vacuum will take 7 days to get here 🙃. I never imagined I’d spend that much on a vacuum before.
We are sadly living in filth due to not being able to vacuum.(just btw we are very clean people and our apartment is SPOTLESS aside from the smell).
We have those plug in smell things that make the apartment smell better as well as one of those humidifier things u put essential oils into.
I plan on sprinkling baking soda mixed with essential oil all over the carpet to grab some of the odor as soon as our new vacuum gets here(so I can vacuum it up after), Giving the dogs a bath once a week from now on and I want to buy some indoor plants to purify the air.
That’s where I’m lost because I don’t know anything about indoor plants 🤷🏼♀️ I need dog friendly plant(s). I want one on top of the fridge(so smaller one), one in the living room (either a large one next to our couch, or smaller one that can be on one of the decorative tables). Eventually if needed probably one in the dinning room as well. Also, the neighbor under us is a chain smoker and the smell occasionally creeps up into our apartment.
I just want my apartment to smell fresh and clean 😩 even when we first moved into here it had a strange smell due to the smell from our neighbor. What do you guys do to keep your place smelling fresh?
Update: -Ok so I over exaggerate when I wrote this because I was in a bad mood/mad 😅
-yes we will be using a rug doctor which we have in the past and my moms house when I lived there. We are waiting until we catch a week when the weather will be drier, so sometime in January.
- I’m debating on whether we should hire a professional carpet cleaner or just wait because we are replacing the carpet and pads in the apartment anyway in spring.
- i may have over exaggerate on my dads dog peeing everywhere, it technically was only 3 times. 2 times in the living room and once on our bed. Our apartment doesn’t really smell like dog urine, it smells like cigarettes (from our neighbor) and the “dog smell”.
