Is “man flu” real? Do men feel the affects of illness more acutely than women, or is it fake and they are just not as good at dealing with the discomfort of being ill?

I feel that my husband always takes medicine for the first sniffle, pain killers for the slightest ache, and starts on throat numbing drops whenever he says his throat is scratchy from a cold, while I rarely take any cold or pain medicine at all. I thought maybe it was all in my head... but now I’m really wondering...

The last few days my hubby has had a sinus cold, so he took cold medicine every few hours and has wanted to stay home on the couch watching TV. But for the last two weeks or so I’ve had the same sinus cold, plus a chest infection and pleurisy, now I’m on my period and cramping badly, and I’ve handled at least most of my regular tasks AND helped my mom plan and put on an engagement party for my little brother. Why does he seem so much more affected?
