Unusual period

For the last 6 months or so my period has came on the 28th day of the month (give or take 2 days because of February) this month however is very unusual. I started on the 19th with some brown discharge and spotting, then next day it was a little bit more and a little bit of red in tampon.  The blood\discharge is more in spurts during the last few days . I do not need to constantly wear a hygiene product until I feel any fluids.. Which is only needed to use a tampon two separate times in one day. I am on day 3 today and only have some thicker brown discharge when I use the bathroom and none at any other point . Has anybody experienced this before? Is it just an early weird period?
