Breastfeeding...Can I have a few glasses of wine or a beer?

My son is BARELY a month old. When is it safe for me to have a glass or two of wine...or maybe a beer? I want to go have a night out with DH and enjoy a glass or two but not if my son will be out at risk.

My lactation consultant said if I’m ok to drive, I’m ok to breastfeed. I personally haven’t because I’m nervous about it but I’ve heard there’s test strips you can get to text your milk too.

You are good to go. If you’re sober enough to take care of your baby you are sober enough to breastfeed your baby. The test strips give false positives and pumping and dumping does absolutely nothing... if alcohol is in your blood it’s in your milk, pumping and dumping just signals you to produce more with alcohol in it. It metabolizes out at the same rate as it does from your blood. And if you were legally drunk 0.08 BAV there’s still less alcohol in your milk than in a glass of OJ (0.09%) so it’s perfectly safe for baby.

just have some pumped milk if you can. if not, one glass won't hurt

If you’re safe to drive, you’re safe to feed. So even if you were tipsy but it’s worn off by the time you feed. If you’re really worried about it you can always pump and dump. I’m planning to get some of those test strips. They have them on amazon.
