If you had the choice of getting married now but not having a wedding or waiting a few years and having a wedding which would you pick?

No wedding all day. They cost too much, and honestly I hate going to weddings as a guest (as do most of the people I know) spend your money on something more productive than a party, like a house! My wedding cost me $350. It was a surprise, in my backyard by our pool, disguised as a Labor Day BBQ. Everyone (30 people) cried and said it was the best wedding they had ever attended and they would never forget it. You can have the memories without spending thousands of dollars on a party that will more than likely won’t make it into the guests long term memory.

Weddings are so expensive for just one day. Id rather have a quick ceremony and a nice holiday afterwards and still have money left to spend on the home and family afterwards

I’m the one who posted the poll. I want to get married now and renew later with a small ceremony. My SO wants a big wedding. The only thing that I’m asking for is a short engagement, which I don’t think is too much to ask. I love weddings, but I would rather be with him now than wait so we can save 20+k. 
He doesn’t mind the idea, just isn’t in love with it. He thinks I deserve better than a courthouse.

Why not sign the papers (no big thing) then "renewing" vows when you're ready for the big thing? I'm thinking of doing that sometime in the future.

We eloped, to a b'n'b on the beach (took my parents. The whole weekend (including ceremony and photography) cost 750 ... I even wore my mom's dress. We had a big party 3 months later and everyone that came said it was a blast. Bought a house with the money we didn't spend on the wedding ... best thing EVER. My best friend is now having a wedding and I'm MOH ... I want her to elope so bad, I'll never be a bridal party member ever again

We eloped with only our immediate family, got married on top of a mountain in New Zealand. I wouldn’t change it for the world

Yeah we don’t really want a wedding. We’re planning on getting married in Italy (since I’m from there and my family lives there) and have it be very small and maybe go out for some awesome pizza in Naples since that’s where most of my family lives.

Well I’m doing that. I got married a few months ago in September at a courthouse. We’re having a ceremony in September of 2019.
