When can I test with the Wal-Mart .88 test?

I've seen most faint lines with the Wal-Mart .88 tests. Are those not for use before your missed period? What's the difference between cheap tests and pricier ones?

The website says it is effective from the first day of your expected period. I used one at 2 days late and the test line came in DARK red before the urine even got to the control area. So maybe it might be effective before you are late  but I always wait to be late because I am sick of seeing neg and af showing up.
