This is definitely not something you should be considering without your doctor.

Just because nothing seems wrong, doesn’t mean you don’t have GD. My close friend had no issues and yet ended up having it. I am insulin resistant and didn’t have it. Being pregnant and having to do blood draws got me over my fear of needles.

I️ understand this is due to a fear of needles/blood draws...but you do realize you will get an IV when you have your baby and blood will be drawn, etc?

I was told if I skipped the test or couldn't finish it (meaning throw it up or something) then they would just treat me as if I had gestational diabetes

I asked for a more natural alternative to the glucose drink. My midwife said I could use juice for my test!

I am in the process of doing blood tests 4x per day for 2 weeks because I couldn't do the normal glucose tests- I'm allergic to corn and it's pure corn syrup.  Didn't refuse, but doing something different.

Can I ask why you’re not doing it? Most tests I’ve refuses Bc either he risks are too high for me personally or the results don’t change how I feel about baby. This one is literally drinking some juice ( not the best taste ) and getting your blood drawn.

I’ve asked to do only a fasting test and not the drink as I’ve previously had an adverse reaction to the glucose drink. If that comes back fine then my Dr said I won’t need to do the full test. However I know if the first test isn’t clear or comes back failed then I will need to do the test. Is there a reason you dont want to do it?

Ive seen research that taking pure sugar after being hungry for a long period sharply shoots up blood sugar both for the mother and baby, and giving a tiny baby such a dose is not a good idea because his tiny pancreas needs to react to it dramatically. I wonder why they do this test when they can simply check triglycerides to find out the same thing. My doctor hasn’t asked for this test to be done yet but i will refuse...

I had to do a 12hr fast before my glucose test with my first, then sit in the lab for 2 full hours afterwards with no food after I had the drink and it was AWFUL. I ended up throwing up everywhere in the waiting room, and failed the test and they never made me do it again. with my second now I plan on trying again, but I have a super weak stomach....😒😓
