Anyone else? Online classes?

Question

So I'm 21 and I have a 7 month old daughter. I'm a single mom, my daughters father isn't in the picture at all. When I found out I was pregnant, I got all my shit together fast. I got my GED, and moved out into a 2 bedroom apartment for us. I work full time at a daycare. I decided it was time to do actual classes to benefit our future, but the only way I'm able to go to college is to do classes online, otherwise I'll lose my job, which in turn, would be the apartment, and income for my daughter. I was really proud of myself for starting my courses but everyone around me is doubting me saying online courses are "cheating" or "aren't real". The courses I'm taking are from a legitimate college that my friends attend in my area, the only difference is that my courses are online. Has anyone else done their classes online? Feeling pretty discouraged now when I thought I was doing something good for my daughter and myself.

I’m in medical school and some of our classes are online. So YES your classes are completely valid, and congratulations on such an awesome decision.

I'm going to start online classes after the baby is born in June. You can even get grants from the school for being a single mother that would help a lot with expenses and caring for your baby

There’s nothing wrong with online classes through a reputable college, what you do want to avoid are the colleges that are for profit and are entirely online- that’s usually a bad sign

I have a 2 year old, just bought a house and work full time (my husband is in the picture though and also works full time). We both have a good amount of debt from graduate school and both need to work to pay for every thing. I recently decided to go back to school to get another degree which would allow me to teach in the future, but couldn't quit my job to work on a PhD, so I'm doing a hybrid program for a different degree. Good for you for wanting to go after your goals and provide a wonderful life for you and your little one.

I got two Bachelors degrees at the same time, one online and one in-person. I learned the same amount at each. Online is the way to go when you need to balance a job and family too!

It takes someone well disciplined and motivated to do online classes. Also, someone who is organized. I’ve been told that as well but just keep on keeping on. You got this girl. You should be proud!

I did my masters online and never had anyone say that. Just make sure the program you go through is accredited. That way you can use it later for higher job positions or continuing education further in the future.
