Bottle sterilizes: necessary or not?

With my first I was less informed and had a microwave sterilizer. I can’t imagine microwaving bottles being very beneficial to a baby these days. 
8 years later, and I’m wondering if it’s necessary to even purchase an electric bottle sterilizer. Can’t I just sterilize the bottles in hot water?

We’ve never sterilized anything 🤷🏻‍♀️ soap, water and your dishwasher work just fine!

I sterilize every time. The sterilizer takes up little space on my counter and no extra work on my part really. My friend who did not sterilize had babies that were spitting up all the time. My fiends and I who sterilized after every wash, have babies that rarely spit up. Not sure if it’s just a coincidence but I’m going to sterilize again for baby #2.

I was always told to sterelize once a week (online research). I did the microwave bags or boiled the parts first when they were new then once a week. After a month that got real old! So I stopped. Asked my sisters what they did and both of them were told by their pediatricians that as long as they are properly washing them that the baby will be fine. So still to this day fresh out of the box I sterelize but after that I just make sure they get a thorough washing. My son is now two and is healthy. My little girl is due any day. Her new bottles are sterelized and ready to go but I don't plan on going through all of that again.

I sterilize like instead of actually washing most of the time. It’s just me and my husband so it doesn’t make sense to run the dishwasher everyday. Our microwave sterilizer takes like 2 minutes.

We have one and I do use it regularly for the nipples and any plastic parts. We use glass bottles, so I wash the glass in the dishwasher and all the other parts go in the sterilizer. When I travel I just bring a collapsible bin and wash everything by hand in hot, soapy water. The sterilizer is definitely easier to use than thoroughly hand washing every time, plus it gives me the peace of mind that I need to know everything is as clean as it can possibly be. I use it for pacifiers, too!

I use soap and water...... But also have a microwave sterilizer that I use when there have been alot of people around, or she's starting to get a little sick.

I get the bags and sterilize when I 1st bought and once a week or so. No need to get all crazy about it. The bags worked great for us.
