Is it irresponsible to have a baby before you're financially independent?

My parents both had children at 19, and say you don't really need much money, you get loads of stuff given or loaned to you and working families tax credit (UK) covers any additional weekly costs (food, nappies etc.)

I believe it's better for you and the baby if you are financially independent, however, you can't plan everything 100%. Everyone almost always needs some kind of help. I'd say if you don't have a job and your husband doesn't have a job, it's not time to start trying. But if you find yourself accidentally pregnant, I'm sure it will all work out... just try your best to find employment!

I think the worst feeling in the world would be to not be able to provide something your child needs.
My sister and I went down drastically different paths. She had my nephew at 17. She's 30 now and still living paycheck to paycheck. My nephew has had necessities, but there were times when it was iffy. Shady child care, not so great food, government school lunches. She was always working and missed SO much. She still looks back and wishes she had more time with him.
I went to college, graduated, worked my ass off, bought a house, got married, lots of promotions. Just had my son at 32. Financially secure, adequate savings. My son will never want for anything and I can provide great care and even private schools for him. By ensuring I was financially secure, I'm providing my son a better quality of life. 
My advice is to never have to depend on anyone...for yourself, but especially for your child's needs.

Well honestly it would be less stressful if you were financially ready but if you have a solid plan and you have your parents to help you and they are okay with helping you if you have a baby then I guess it shouldn’t be the worst to not be financially unstable. But like I said it would make everything so much easier if you were not having to rely on anyone
