Pooping?

Question

So I had my daughter Monday and the last time I pooped was right before I went to the hospital. I'm passing gas and I feel like I have to poop. But when I try it's kind of hard and I'm afraid it's going to hurt my stitches. How long did you ladies go without pooping? Was it painful? Should I ask my doctor for stool softner?

Take a stool softener a few times a day and apply counter-pressure. I had disposables wipes with me. When you have to go, take a wipe and apply pressure (lightly!) to the area with stitches while you push to have a bowel. My delivery nurse suggested that and it helped so much. That way it doesn't feel like you're going to blow out your stitches while pushing!

I have been taking a stool softener 3 times a day! Definitely helps! I would be scared to without it!

I didn't poop for almost a week! It hurt but def make sure ou are drinking lots of water and taking stool softeners

This is too funny since I read an article/blog last night about it. She called it "ass glass" and that she was in there for 15 minutes. She said she did stool softeners and prune juice and said just take your time because it hurts.

It's a side effect of pain meds among other things. It'll happen, just drinks tons of water!! Isn't childbirth lovely ;)

I didn't like the stool softners - ate some prunes every morning with my breakfast.

I couldn't poop either, even with stool softener, I eventually had to use a suppositorie which did the trick and made me feel much better.

I didn't poop for like a week. I was terrified! It actually ended up fine, it was soft luckily but my dr did prescribe me a stool softener. It will be ok if u are really worried take a stool softener.

I just had my twins Sunday and I just pooped yesterday. It was five days total that I didn't poop. But I took stool softeners everyday. What I ended up doing to make it so much easier was proped my feet up and leaned back on the seat. Relax as much as possible and let it come out on its own. It wasn't too bad. I was very scared also because my pain seems to be getting worse everyday instead of better.

I pooped about 36 hours after having my LO. I took a stool softener as soon as I got home from the birthing center and continued to take one a day for a week until my stitches felt a little better (I also developed terrible hemorrhoids during delivery, so I needed to be gentle with my rear end!) that first poop is seriously scary, but I felt soooo much better after. I would suggest lots of water and s gentle stool softener for sure! Good luck!
