Low sperm count..urologist or infertility specialist?

Question

My husband has a low sperm count, they didn’t even give us a number. We are currently working with a urologist who just ordered a blood sample to test his testosterone. Should we go straight to a infertility specialist??

We went to the urologist first and honestly we just wasted about 5-6 months, he couldn't find the problem and ended up recommending us to go to a fertility clinic 😒, we ended up doing IVF with ICSI, it worked on the first cycle and I'm now 32 weeks!.

We were shocked to find an $1,100 bill for a testicular ultrasound from the urologist. It was looking for a varocele. It wasn’t there but hubby has solace knowing.

We also wasted time/money on a urologist. My husband has poor motility and low count. He had a varicocele removed and all this surgery did was add to the cost. We ended up doing ivf with icsi and I am currently 20 weeks with twin boys. Our fertility doctor straight up said we wasted time/money doing that. Had no effect on count or mobility

From our experience,  the fertility specialist will want to run their own semen analysis. My hubs had one analysis done by a urologist and the fertility specialist wanted the remaining samples run through their own clinic. He then had to do three, one week between each, for our fertility workup. All that to say, save your money and see a fertility specialist for any remaining semen analysis.

Thank you for responding! That’s what I’m thinking. And our insurance doesn’t cover any of this (Not even urologist) so I feel like we will be wasting money    That’s great it worked for the first time for you!!! ❤️❤️
