When to transition to toddler bed?

So my son is 9 months and my husband is going into the airforce, while he’s in training and such I’ll be staying with my sister for a while and will only be able to bring what fits in my car. My son will be about a year old at that point, and I had planned on bringing the pack n play, but was wondering when people transitioned to a toddler bed? Or any other ideas? I can buy something when I’m at my sisters, I just can’t load up the regular crib with me as it’s too big and bulky.

I potty trained my son and soon i will change his bed. But one thing at a time. If you do, get everything out of the room that he can eat like cords toys and anythingyou can put in the mouth.

My sons 10 months and has been in a toddler bed for about a week now. He's done excellent in it, better than he did in a crib.

My oldest son was 11 months when I transitioned him to a toddler bed. He was a horrible climber and climbed out of his crib during his nap and got stuck between the wall and the crib. Obviously he was scared and screamed bloody murder so I went right in and found him but after that I wasn’t willing to chance something worse happening. It is definitely doable, but you have to be consistent with putting them back in bed or the transition will be horrible. It took over a month with him but only took my 19 month old a week to transition. The younger they are, the more work and consistency it will take.

We didn’t take my son out of crib into toddler bed until he was 2 1/2. It’s so much safer to have them in a crib.

You could always get a mattress to put in the pack and play. They’re like $100. My son is 1. He’s sleeps in his crib but we haven’t even had to lower it down yet. We are at least a year away from the toddler conversion.

We didnt even buy a big crib or a toddler bed. When she got too big for her sidecar co-sleeper bed, we did a mix of co-sleep/pack n play, then around 13 months put her in her own room (completely baby-proofed) with a twin mattress on the ground.
