how to get baby to sleep in his crib? help!

Lyle is 14 months, I nurse to sleep then transfer him to his crib. he still wakes multiple times a night. I end up sleeping with him in my big armchair that I nurse in. well I'm exhausted.  I haven't had more than 4 or maybe 5 hours sleep in well over a year. I'm back at work. I need help!

Does he ever fall asleep without breastfeeding? If not, sounds like it is time to teach him how to fall asleep on his own.  My daughter started doing this at 10 months. We were co-sleeping (she started out the night in her pack n play for a few hours) and nursing to sleep, and it got to the point where were both sleeping terribly. I decided I had to cut her off at night and completely night-weaned her. Her sleep pattern improved dramatically and rapidly. She is 14 months now and sleeps through the night almost daily in her own room.

I would try with naps first. You said he falls asleep on your husband. While he’s still sleepy but before he falls asleep, put him in the crib and walk out. Depends on how comfortable you are with letting him cry it out a little. If you have a 5 min tolerance, go in after 5 rub his back and walk or again. Don’t pick him up or stay for too long. If your comfortable with more crying, I would do 5,10,15, 20 min intervals. He probably doesn’t know how to self soothe and that’s something he has to learn.

i had to slowly introduce controlled crying to get my lo to sleep better. he still wakes up ocassionally and wants me to rock him but im okay with that vs being up 3 or 4 times a night or sleeping in the arm chair. i simply rock him for 10 minutes and then lay him down and let him cry for 5. i just keep doing this until hes asleep in his crib. sometimes he falls asleep rocking anf sometimes he falls asleep in his crib.
