Could also tell schedule for giving milk?

My son loves milk. I've been doing "smoothies" where I very very finely puree a vegetable inside his milk (like avocado or little bit of spinach) he gets it in his bottle and he doesn't mind because it's milk and it's from a bottle which he loves.

We just cut down to 2 cups a day (about 8-10oz). He gets one right when he wakes up and drinks it during cartoons and breakfast. Then he gets the second cup around 5pm and finishes it with dinner. 
He was having about 3-4 6ish oz cups a day from the time he was 1 until the last month or so. 
But I read recently that a toddler with a well rounded diet (which he has) only needs about 2 cups (8oz) a day or 1 cup and a couple servings of dairy (yogurt, cheese). So I felt comfortable giving him less. 
He gets water during the day if he’s thirsty.
