50 Shades of Grey: Are the books as awful as the movies?

Every time the trailer comes on for the third movie, my eyes roll. Even the trailer looks bad.
I’ve seen the first two, on HBO for those times I’ve been all caught up on my shows and can’t watch other shows/movies ahead of my husband. They were god awful.
So for those who’ve read the books...were they actually any good and it’s just poor execution on the movie part?  Or did they suck too?

Ummm I read like two pages of the books and could not stand it. The writer is GOD AWFUL. If you can suffer through the same darn adjectives beinnnused over and over again... oh AND I heard that there’s a part where he rips out her bloody tampon and flings it against the wall 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢. I can’t I just no....... I can’t. I actually tried watching the movie instead and I couldn’t handle that either. It was so awkward and uncomfortable. Blehhhhhh. I don’t get how this was made into such a big thing. It’s cringeworthy.

The books are horrible, I mean.. I've only read a little past the half of the 1st book but it was so bad I had to stop... It was so cliché? Typical female protagonist who is supposed to be somewhat smart but she acts dumb as hell. It shows that it was a Twilight fanfiction originally (I'm not against fanfics at all, but I am aware of how many of them are.. take After for example, truly horrific).
