induced at 38 weeks

it’s finally my time to tell my birth story and i’m so happy about it, this may be long so grab some snacks.

at 35 weeks my blood pressure began to be super high and i had many signs of preeclampsia, as we did more testing they came to the conclusion that i had mild preeclampsia so i began to get monitored twice a week at the hospital and going to normal ob every week. at 36 weeks my blood pressure was just pretty damn high but luckily my baby was doing AMAZING, they decided it was best to wait if out since my blood pressure would drop after a bit, however they didn’t believe i would make it to my due date (jan 28) so they decided to give me a steroid shot to develop the baby’s lungs. another week went by and nothing happened, i got checked for the first time in case i needed to be induced and 0cm dilated, i wanted the baby out i was sooo irritated with being pregnant i decided to do as much to try to get induced and well nothing happened. i reached 38 weeks and i knew i wasn’t going to make it to the end. at 38 weeks with 2 days i went in for my normal hospital monitoring and my blood pressure was very high as they kept checking my blood pressure it would never drop so by now we being “full term” they decided it’s time to have a baby!

i went from the monitoring room straight into l&d; and was so excited that i was finally going to meet my baby! as soon as i was in my l&d; room i began to have contractions (NATURALLY) they are between 2-5 minutes apart and i was so amazed! i was checked and i was 0cm dilated but 70% effaced. i was told if my contractions wouldn’t slow down they couldn’t put a balloon in to help me dilate manually, for a while they wouldn’t slow down so somehow they managed to get them to calm down for a bit and that’s when the fun began! at 8 they put a balloon inside and i started to get contractions, i was let walk around and about an hour after walking around the balloon was out and i was 4cm dilated! it took 7 hours when i was told it would most likely take 12 or up to 24 hours! there was not much progress after this, just lots and lots of pain. the doctor came in and broke my water, it was a super weird experience, about 15/20 minutes after he had broke my water i was having a conversation and i thought i was peeing myself it was so funny. i had opted for a natural or as natural labor as possible, things however did change. after about 13 hours of labor i decided to ask for some morphine and i just have to say that first dose was AMAZING! i felt loopy and was not feeling pain. slowly it began to ware off and i asked for more however this time it didn’t help at all. my pitocin was raised and my contractions began to be unbearable and i had no idea what to do i could no longer breathe through them. i did everything in my power to breathe through them, this whole pregnancy i swore i would do everything in my power not to get an epidural however after having been in labor for almost 20 hours my mom, mother in law and boyfriend all thought it was better to get it since they didn’t want me suffering. i didn’t want to give in but once i realized i was probably going to be in labor for a lot longer since i was only 4cm dilated i decided i was going to give in. before so i did have a whole breakdown feeling disappointed in myself for giving in, my support system made me feel amazing saying how proud they were of the 20+ hours i had just spent dealing with the pain. once we called for the nurse she came in and was calling the anesthesiologist but they were no where to be found! i was dying!!! after about half an hour she finally was able to get in contact with one and fairly quickly i was given the epidural, relief at last! i was finally able to sleep, i took about a 30 minute nap and a couple hours later i was checked and i was now 7cm dilated!! i was so happy to have finally dilated some more but i was told it could still be a while until i was at a 10. my epidural didn’t fully take away my pain i could still feel the contractions on my right hip but they just felt a little weird not painful almost just crampy. 3/4 hours after i was told that i was 7cm i started feeling strong contractions that my epidural wouldn’t take away, i then began to feel the need to push, at first i thought i had trapped gas and then i realized that’s not what it was. i was told before my baby’s head was super low but i wasn’t dilated now i still believed i wasn’t dilated but i knew she was lowering. i begged to be checked and when i was checked i was told i was at a 10!!! through all the pain i was smiling and all incredibly happy!!!! my nurses went to look for the doctor and as soon as they stepped out i could not stand the pain, this was the point when i finally began to scream (not really but moan in pain extremely loud) the whole labor i had only been breathing loudly but not really made any other noise at this point i couldn’t stand it. i was screaming and calling for the nurse because i couldn’t take it!! finally the nurses came and told me i could push!! as soon as i was told i could push i did about 10 minutes into pushing the doctor finally came in! 5-10 minutes later my beautiful babygirl was born! she did one big cry and then stopped, 5 minutes later she did not stop crying! 28 hours of labor day was so worth it to meet my beautiful daughter!
