Experiences with epidurals?..

Question

So I know they have different types of epidurals..
For example a walking epidural..
If you’ve had a walking epidural or I’m guessing it’s called just an epidural (fully numb)
What was your experience with these? 
Would you recommend it?
The thought of being completely numb kinda scares me.. but thinking if I get a walking epidural will I still feel a lot of pain? 
Plz help! First time mommy in less than a month!

I’m a labor and delivery nurse and will most definitely be getting a epidural when I deliver in September. I hate the IV pain meds because they effect the baby way more than a epidural. If you have any specific questions about it let me know.

My epidural was AMAZING. I was so scared of it beforehand. I didn't want to be stuck in bed, didn't want the catheter, didn't want anything in my spine... but then I got it, and will forever be grateful I did. I felt virtually no pain as the doctor did it. And it took my labor from "medieval torture" to "calm and enjoyable." I was able to relax, bring in family to visit, talk and laugh with my husband, and enjoy the anticipation of delivering my son with much less fear. 10/10 would recommend. It was a miracle for me.

I got one and it wore off right before it was time for me to push... I’m getting one this pregnancy because that pain is unbearable

with my first birth the epidural fell out twice before a successful anesthesiologist took over, 2nd birth had it again, first attempt went well/stayed, but had back problems for a few months after. 3rd birth had a homebirth- nooo pain meds, and was the fastest I had ever recovered and wasn't constipated after- yeah tmi but being real. With this baby it will be a hospital birth but with epidural or not still unsure. It's clear I survived a natural birth and can do it again, but thinking about being in a hospital makes me think I may automatically go for the epidural because its there. I'm doing childbirth classes again so I can do my best to manage pain on my own first. Whatever you decide it's up to you, no one else. 😊

An epidural is usually just an epidural from what I hear from other mamas. You can always get pain meds via IV to take the edge off along with pain management by other means like hypnobabies etc. A saying that helps me with the fear is "it can't be greater than me, it is me"
