Pump and dump?

Question

Does everyone do it after drinking? I had a beer and have heard I can wait to breastfeed and avoid pumping and dumping, cause it will be metabolized. Any thoughts?

Pumping and dumping does not get the alcohol out faster. Once the alcohol is out of your blood then it’s out of your milk

Girl, you’ve got to be SHITTY before even a small amount of alcohol goes through your milk. I’ve had my baby on the breast with a glass of wine in hand. If you can’t safely hold your baby, that would be too much. 
Even then; pump it, bag it, and save it for a milk bath!

Sober enough to drive, sober enough to nurse. 1 beer won’t do anything and you never need to pump and dump.

some women drink a beer a day to help produce more milk, it's the yeast in it, 1 beer and you are fine. if you're super worried they make alcohol test strips you dip into your milk to see if any crossed over. I've seen them at Wal-Mart

After every 6 oz of alcohol you're supposed to wait 2 hours before breastfeeding. Pump and dump dose nothing to get the alcohol out of your milk. I usually would just pump a few bottles before hand.

You need to wait minimum 3 hours per drink. 1drink =3hrs, 2drinks =6hours. Once the liquor is out of your system it will clear out of the breastmilk.

Rule is if you are ok to drive you are ok to nurse. Rules from a very experienced Lactation RN I work with closely.:)

My pediatrician/LC told me that you just have a  drink right after nursing/pumping and you’re good to go. No need to pump and dump :).
