Late Ovulation on Clomid?

I am currently taking 50mg of Clomid and this is my first cycle. I went for my day 12 check up and my doctor said she didn't think I would ovulate this cycle but to proceed with sex every other day and we'd check in on Day 28 (with bloodwork to check Progesterone levels on Day 21. I was heart broken but still tested (opk)and baby danced with the hubby. I was getting the flashing smiley from day 12-17 which made me feel like I was getting false results and it wouldn't happen and then Day 18 I got the steady, Peak smiley!!! Day 21 I had my progesterone test and they confirmed that I ovulated (I was at 16.89 NL/MG!) I am trying to stay hopeful but am wondering if since I ovulated too late, is tomorrow too soon for my check in?
