grooooosssss. haha there's been so maylnt posts on this lately. #1 there's no proven benefits #2 it's your baby's waste from the womb #3 your milk comes in when your placenta DETACHES so not sure why you'd wanna re-ingest it if you're planning on breastfeeding. #4 it's full of pregnancy hormones which you don't need anymore after giving birth #5 there's a reason your body ejects it after birth

I did not consume my placenta after babies 1 and 2, and my milk supply and healing were great, but I did suffer postpartum depression. I had placenta smoothies after my 3rd and no postpartum depression, milk and healing were the same. For the depression reason alone I will do that again. I chose to do smoothies (raw, frozen pieces added to smoothies) because when I looked it all up, the evidence suggested that it works best that way. I also had a tincture made out of 1 of the pieces and used that briefly after I ran out of the frozen bits. It was a good transition. Encapsulation is the most common way of doing it, but because the placenta is dehydrated it is supposedly the least effective, but I can't say from experience if that's true because I haven't tried it. Also...it's worth mentioning that one of the best ways to stop postpartum hemorrhage is to put a piece of raw placenta in your cheek, so consuming the placenta after birth is likely a good way to prevent hemorrhage. :)

Meh, it's mostly blood vessels, some cultures do it because meat is hard to come by. I would ask your doctor if there are any benefits or side effects.
