Should I ask the artist?

There’s a local artist near the town I live in and I LOVE their work but I don’t know them personally. I follow them on Instagram and that’s about it 😂 they have this piece of art that I am obsessed with and I want it tattooed on me. 
Do I need to ask them permission to get it tattooed or can i just go ahead and do it and then like tag them in it once i get it?
And another thing. I know how tattoo artists don’t typically like doing other people’s art that much.. do you think there’s going to be an artist willing to do the tattoo? Or would most artists be upset by it?

I personally would probably ask first. Just because it is something they created. I doubt they would say no, but i feel like they would appreciate you asking first.

As an artist please please please ask before putting anyone’s work onto your body, it’s just respectful. There’s a huge chance that the artist will be flattered and say yes; most tattoo artists don’t have an issue with you coming in with artwork and a plan of what you want so don’t be afraid.
