Is feminist someone who thinks that women have same rights and responsibilities as men or women are superior than men?

What is feminism to you all? What does it mean to be a feminist? I thought that being feminist is someone who believe that women should have same rights and responsibilities as men but today when I was watching a movie,, the guy was cheating on his wife and when the wife tried to do the same thing I said “he’s got some nerves that he’s himself a cheater but he’s cursing at his wife for doing the same thing” and someone called me a feminist and said that feminist is someone that thinks women are better than men. Someone please explain

A feminist is not someone that thinks they’re better than men. That’s misandry. 
As a feminist I believe in striving for equality between all genders, but also recognize that equity is sometimes needed.

Anyways, feminism is a very complex movement. And tbh I don’t even think the majority of people here actually want to understand the movement, so this comment will most likely be in vain. 
Feminism is theoretically supposed to be the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. However, for what sounds like a pretty decent concept for bridging equality, feminism actually excluded (and continues to exclude) a lot of marginalised groups. 
Historically, feminism has evidently been about making middle/upper class, cishet, able bodied, white women equal to white men. Feminism has a history of excluding POC, LGBT+ people, People with Disabilities, people living in poverty etc. 
So although it’s a movement that promotes itself as being “for equality” the reality is, there is a lot of times when feminism has been vastly more exclusive than inclusive. 
Now, there are concepts that have stemmed from, such as Womanism (a term more used by WOC) and international feminism. These are movements that are meant to promote equality and inclusivity more than traditional feminism. Although, I think that the existence of these two movements alone show up feminism as an invalid movement - because in their existence, womanism and intersectional feminism automatically call out feminism for its lack of promoting equality. 
Just want to point out, that feminism never has been about women striving to be superior to white men. Maybe MOC, though? Due to the racism that exists in the feminist community?
To make people aware, intersectional feminism and womanism also fight for injustices men face. Toxic masculinity, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism all effect men, too. 
But if we’re talking broadly about women being considered superior to men. The term people are looking for is misandrist. Not feminazi 🙄 I mean, can’t believe I have to explain that, but I guess people are still living behind the times.

Not about surpassing men.
Not about putting men down.

By definition it’s equal rights.
But some people take things to the extreme and it can be looked at as “they hate men” or they want women to be superior. This of course happens with any group.
