Anyone else NOT having or wanting a baby shower?

I feel weird having a shower. I think it’s a strange tradition - to celebrate something that isn’t born yet- and to accept gifts from people. I’d rather have a party after the baby is born and in the world!  Does anyone else feel this way? If so, what are you doing instead? ✨ps- this will be my first beebee

I’ve known people who skip on the baby shower and do a baby welcoming party so everyone comes after the baby is born lik a shower they come with gifts and you hang out eat there’s cake etc you can always do that. People are going to want to come visit after anyways might be easier to have 1 big party

You’re not wrong to feel that way. My mom was more offended than I was that not many people bought me gifts, but like someone else said, it was our choice to have another baby so it’s our responsibility to take care of those things. I didn’t push our registry on anyone. We don’t live near family but our friends want to throw him a little “welcome home” party after he’s born and the only thing we really said we may need was diapers, but we just want to enjoy everyone’s company 😊

I was so grateful for all the necessities we received for when the baby was born. If we had waited there is so much we would've had to buy to get through those first few months. It's your baby, therefore your choice, but it's always fun to celebrate the pregnant mama and get baby needs. 💕💕

I had a small shower and I loved it. Didn’t have it for the gifts because let’s be real most of the real needs / big items are stuff that you’re going to buy for the most part (crib/bassinet, swings, nursery items, car seat, stroller)... Showers are mainly just friends and family showing love and support for the new addition. I preferred to have it before the baby came instead of after. Don’t want a lot of people around a newborn, too many germs.

I felt the same way! However my mother, sister and grandma were wayyyyy excited about having a baby shower, so I went with it. 
We had close family come and celebrate our little guy and it was actually a fun experience! It was great seeing how excited everyone was and how loved our little boy is already 😊
If my little guy wasn’t due in the next couple weeks, we would have done a meet and greet baby get together too! Darn snow storms and flu season!

I had my baby shower two weeks after Baby was born. That also helped with relatives all being able to visit/meet baby without having to bombard you after birth. It was great.

If someone decides to throw one for me cool. If not , even better lol. I'm not that girl that's into stuff like that. Outside of a few items bought by my mother, the old man and I have bought everything we have for our daughter.

I felt the same way and decided to have a very small shower with only my closest friends and family. You wouldn’t believe how many packages I received in the mail from people who weren’t invited to the shower. People just love buying baby things I guess!! And it’s super helpful to have people buy some of the items, especially for a first time mom. Babies need lots of stuff!

I'm really torn about it. 2 of my closest friends moved away in the last year and I have hardly any family in the area. I feel like only a handful of people would even be able to make it. On top of that, we found out that our baby girl likely has a birth defect and will have to have surgery immediately after birth to survive. I feel like this giant cloud is hanging over me now. I haven't even told my family yet so it feels weird to have them want to celebrate the upcoming birth knowing it will be a fight for her life... ugh.

We are on baby number 6 and have never had a shower. We believe that if we created a life, it’s up to us to provide for it. I feel strange too accepting gifts from family in regards to a baby they didn’t themselves ask for or make in their own. I wouldn’t mind having a baby “celebration,” but nobody has ever offered to throw me anything, and with the money we’d spend on food and drinks, I’d rather just skip it and spend that on the baby. In synopsis, I don’t think your feelings are odd at all. I feel like it says a lot about your personality. We had our first children when we were in our teens and have been on our own ever since. Purchased our first home at 21. Never had a handout. We just are very independent people. Nothing wrong with that! 🤷‍♀️
