Robitussin okay to take?

I’ve had a very bad cold the last week and my doctor gave me a list of stuff to take but robitussin was not on there. But my best friend who also is pregnant has taken it and said it is safe and she took the exact same stuff. I’m sixteeen weeks pregnant and I just wanna get over this cold but I’m extremely scared to take this. So I just want some reassurance this is safe to take.

Dextromethorphan (DM) is the active ingredient in robitussin DM. Dextromethophan has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Animal studies have revealed evidence of teratogenicity. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Dextromethorphan is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
