American Maternity is such a joke...

So, I pay into a Long Term Disability plan $27/check which covers me for 6 weeks of maternity. Only thing is, I have to exhaust all of my sick leave before they will pay out. At the time I'm due I'll have about 4 weeks of sick leave banked. Well, once I use the 4 weeks, they will only pay for the last 2, since the 4 weeks of my SL counts towards the 6 weeks. And they'll pay out at 2/3 of my wage. It's such crap! FMLA protects my job for 6 weeks, but pays me nothing and if I want more time off I can apply for parental leave, but again, unpaid. I'm still going to have to pay for my insurance too.

It just sickens me that human mother's have less rights than animals when it comes to their babies. Kittens and puppies are recommended to stay with their moms for at LEAST 8 weeks, yet we only get 6? Pathetic!

I'm curious, for those of you from other countries, what are the maternity leave laws there?
