MIL calling the baby HER baby?

Question

So let me start by saying my MIL is very lovely and we get along really well.
But this past weekend we were visiting and I’m about 17 weeks along. She kept saying ‘how’s my baby doing?’
My husband and I shut it down down immediately and went, HUH? It’s OUR baby, not yours! 
Anyways, has anyone else experienced something similar? I think she’s just excited but it really threw me off. Lol

I mean my daughters grandparents all do that. "How's my little girl doing" It's really just a phrase. I don't think she meant it as my baby like the child is hers.

My family says this. What they mean to say is "How is my little grand baby." But sometimes they say "my baby" It's a common phrase is all. 🙂

I can see why you guys would be weirded out by it. I would look at it as she cares and loves the baby soo much. Mine and my husband's parents couldn't even tell you our kids birthdays or one thing that they like so I personally feel like you're lucky to have family who loves your baby as much as you do.❤

My MIL did that with our first, and at first it drove me nuts. But our daughter is her first grand baby so I can understand why she felt possessive. My husband did mention to her that it was “our” baby, not “hers” and I just had to kind of learn to let it go. She still calls her “my angel” and I just roll with it - we all know who made her, so it’s not a big deal anymore I guess.

My godson’s mom says this and it drives me nuts. Doesn’t matter because he will  sleep in my home at the end of the day and I know he’s my baby and no one else’s.

I just let it slide. 
It really bothered me at first. But the kids adore their Nanny, and vice versa.
They only see her two/three times a year.
