Male doula? OBGYN?

Question

What are your thoughts?? I personally prefer men which is why I looked it up in the first place. Wondering what your experiences have been that make you prefer woman.

I prefer a male OBGYN. Their compassion is just different. I feel more at ease

I have a female OB currently but have also had a male in the past. With my first pregnancy my regular OB was actually on maternity leave herself until I was about 5 months along so I had a male OB and switched when she came back. I felt like he was always very kind and considerate, but as a doctor I didn’t like his approach as much. It had nothing to do with his gender, just his general approach to healthcare. I found that during birth I was most comfortable with those caregivers that had also given birth before because I felt like they knew what I was going through. I recently read an article written by an OB that talked about how her perspective changed after she gave birth herself and she sympathized more with her patients and this is what I have seen in my experience too.
I would not be against a male doula, it would largely depend on his personality and how we got along (same as for a female). However I think my husband would be against it and feel more replaced by having another male at the birth than a female. He would understand that another female provides a different type of support to me than he can, but not another male.

I wanted an OB and doula who were women who have given birth before.. I think that for me it’s not something you can fully understand or empathise with unless you have been through it yourself.

I have a male OBGYN and a female midwife. In the past 5 years they have each delivered one of my babies. I'm now pregnant with town and kind of anxious to see who delivers these two. For me as long as they know what they're doing and we have some kind of relationship I don't care who gets my baby / babies out as long as they come out safely. I love them both....

I think woman OB’s are more harsh, less sensitive because they been through it before or has a expectation of you because they are woman as well. Men don’t have any idea how you physically or mentally feeling so they emphasized more. I changed Doctors twice 1 went on maternity leave when I was 3 months the other was always leaving early because of daycare issues and had bad bedside manners been seeing my make OB for 10 years now love him..... Just my experience
