What the heck is a membrane sweep?

My doctor hasn't said anything about this and I've never thought to ask but I see lots of other women mention it. And while we're at it, what's VBAC?

A membrane sweep is when the dr manually separated the bag of amniotic fluid from the lining of the cervix.  It is said to help jump start contractions for women who are near to or past their due date.

It's when the doc uses his/her hand on your cervix and try to induce contractions. I had it with my first and it felt like she was stabbing me hahaha but it's over quickly
