3 yr old keeps choking on food

My 3 yr old keeps choking on his food and it’s terrifying. We don’t want to baby him, but at the same time when he coughs up an entire tortellini that’s not good.

This morning at breakfast we cut his food into smaller bites and sat there the whole time “no don’t shove that in your mouth, chew before you swallow, there that was a good size bite” 🙄 I felt like a crazy helicopter parent, but don’t know what else to do, and it’s not like we will be there with him at daycare...

Any thoughts/tips?
